Swimming

Caleb and Jacob attended their first swim lesson today. They have been excited to start but I have waited until Jacob was three so he too could attend with Caleb in the 3-5 yr pre level 1 class. Two of their little friends Annalynn and James are taking them with them which makes it just that much more exciting. It is amazing what a teacher can do with your children that they would never do for their mother. They both floated on their backs without flailing. They were disappointed that it was only a half hour. But they got to go down the alligator slide once before leaving.

I decided that lessons was a necessity since I was afraid of water as a child and had a time or two that I felt like I was going to drown. I didn't learn to swim until junior high were it was part of our gym class. I still am not a fan of deep water and am only capable of swimming enough to jump from a diving board and get to the side. Hehehe.

You are very wise to do the swimming lessons when they are very young. I was 14 when I had my first swimming lesson. It didn't really "take." I am still fearful of water (and now even more so since my adventure in the Provo River--told in my "Life Comes At You Fast" blog).

That is so great! I am signing Joshua up for a swim class next month! It always scares me when we go to the pool and he tries to "swim" by himself. I think he thinks he is invincible...silly boy!

I AM INVINCIBLE!!! (Just before I was squirted with 80,000,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen; No, I take that back; it was the guy in "Goldeneye")

I was raised on the beach and was dunked so many times by the surf as a child that swimming lessons really didn't seem to be a big deal.

Swim lessons were at the Brea Plunge with my cousins, the Wilson kids, when I was about six or so. The kids in the Canyon always went to La Vida Springs where we caused more havoc than any drunken water polo team on the planet.

I was on the swim team in high school, the coordinated swimming team. I think that the coach was glad to see me go.

I have never been a high diver except for "Cannonballs". Those "whatever-meter" platforms just give me the willies.

Almost losing my wife in the Provo River has sort of put me off water activities, unless we have a really big boat; I MEAN A REALLY BIG BOAT!!!!
