Smoothies and a movie

Our own little family tradition on Sunday nights is to have smoothies and a movie with microwave popcorn. The kids love it and so do I. The boys get so excited when they get their own little cup with a straw which dad usually hides behind his back for the element of surprise, and then shouts smoothies! Which explodes in giggles of excitement. You wouldn't think popping microwave popcorn was so exciting but the boys have to do it themselves and watch anxiously to see it pop. Dad is the smoothie master as he is the one to usually make them for us. We have tried just about every kind and flavor, whatever we have on hand.
Recipe:
Yogurt (any flavor or plain) half a tub
juice (whatever you have apple, orange, grape, pineapple, great harvest to get vegies, etc.)
1 cup more or less depending on how thick you want it.
Frozen fruit (bananas, strawberries, pineapple, peaches, etc.)
mmmmm very tasty. Perhaps a healthy snack. I don't know about the sugar content of the yogurt and juice but my kids get their servings of fruit.
I remember as a kid coming home from church and having a nice dinner. Sundays usually consisted of two meals, so in the evening we were ready for a snack. We would pop popcorn the old fashioned way with the good old popcorn popper. I loved to watch it as the popcorn sometimes flew everywhere out of the popper. We then poured on the butter and added some salt. I loved to pick out the butter soaked popcorn pieces. We also had toast with or without jam. We then would all end up on the couch munching our goodies watching the Jeffersons and Alice, LOL. In the colder months we would have a fire and wrap ourselves up in blankets.

That sounds like so much fun! I am glad you guys have such a neat tradition..hmmm...gives me some good ideas of what to do with my kids!
What a cute idea! Of course, I'll have to wait a little while before Audrey can manage eating popcorn without choking herself! LOL! The smoothies sound so great! I think I'll go and get some frozen fruit this afternoon! :)
Actually, what I do, is I take side-steps one at a time, with my back to the wall with the smoothie behind my back. And, then I get super close to their face, and then yell "SMOOTHIES". You know, it's all about the climax.
The presentation is probably more memorable than the actual smoothie.
We tried out a few different Sunday traditions that eventually didn't "make the cut" or were abandoned. Like hot eggnog. Like eating gallons of fresh warm tapioca pudding. Like waffles a la mode (with ice cream). The cook probably began worrying about all that sugar.
I liked tapioca...I still have happy memories of it...Hot eggnog is just nasty.
MMMM I wish you lived close and we'd do a cousin smoothie and popcorn night. I love tradtions.
Sorry I haven't checked your blog for a long time because when I did, it had never changed...now there is a lot to catch up on.
I wish we could have got together with you and the Najdawi's. It was so hectic. They did go to SLC a few times to visit friends and once to West Jordan. Cindy wanted to see Kathy's baby but I didn't have Kathy's phone humber so I gave her Joyce's but no one answered when she called. I kept hoping we'd do a BBQ or something.
