Somniloquy

So what in the world is Somniloquy? It literally means “sleep talking”. Since I am quite the light sleeper I am often awakened by some voices (not in my head) making nonsense conversation. Last night I was awakened by tiny footsteps headed through my door, I usually can tell which child it is coming. Well, Jacob was quite annoyed that Caleb had eaten all of his ice. ?? Well of course he must have been dreaming. Then Chris blurts out that "the building is going down". I replied "what building"? "The temple". Now before falling asleep I was engaged in my current novel about the gathering of the saints in the last days (very hard to put down). So I was a little paranoid by his statement. I then said "By who"? "The attackers" was the reply. Yes, I can sometimes have a conversation in this state. I then said "are you playing a game? Yes. was the reply. I then thought maybe I could use this to my advantage and told him to lay off the games for awhile - Hehehe. I am sure there are some fun instances to talk about but most are forgotten by morning. Although, the best senario I will never forget, because I couldn't stop laughing, was when Chris woke me up by saying "can you do this?". I said "what" trying to figure out if this was a real conversation. Then he said it again "can you do this?" "Do what?" I asked. He said "Jump". I said "can I jump?" Still trying to figure this out in my sleepy state. Then he said "like this" and literally jumped, kicking his feet, pushing up, and shaking the whole bed. I thought I can't forget to tell him about this in the morning!
Caleb once blurted out in his sleep "I don't want Jacob". Well, I giggled knowing that Jacob was always the instigator constantly bugging Caleb by putting his feet on him etc. just to get a reaction. Yes, it started at 9 months. He would grab Caleb's feet pulling him off the couch and sitting on his head.

Here is an interesting fact by sleepdex.org:
Sleep talking can occur at any point in the sleep cycle. The lighter the sleep, the more intelligible the speech. In stages 1 and 2, people may have entire conversations while asleep. In stages 3 and 4, somniloquy may be restricted to moans and gibberish.
Popular myth associates sleep talking with dreams. While it is possible to talk in REM sleep, it isn't as likely as at other stages. During REM, our body undergoes temporary paralysis: a safety mechanism designed to prevent us from acting out our dreams and hurting ourselves. This paralysis usually includes the jaw and speech mechanisms.

WOW! That is so cool! Jeremy sleep talks. I just forget what he says the next day... I should record it next time on my camera. :D Jeremy told me that on his mission, his companion woke with a start because Jeremy was cussing him out (using every word in the book apparently) and was about to beat the snot out of Jeremy until he realized that Jeremy was sound asleep. LOL!

Ben used to talk in his sleep when we were first married. Maybe I made him feel self-conscious by asking him about it... or that fact that he rarely sleeps anymore may have more to do with it...

Sounds like you're tired in the morning.
I talk in my sleep but it usually wakes me up. Larry has said some funny stuff too and I always think I'll remember it but I don't. I need to put a notebook by my bed to write it down. All my kids have said stuff now and again.
But Logan is the big talker in our family. I actually think he is talking to me cause he is such a light sleeper that I get mad that he is awake until he says something about the boys bugging him then I know he's sleeping. He says stuff like "No Skrapper" Or "give it to me Hudson" And he makes play fighting noises.
His new favorite saying (not in his sleep) is "Wicked Awesome"
He says it for everything. Yesterday we went to McDonalds and when we loaded up in the truck to leave he said "that was wicked awesome"

Hi, Just thought I'd tell you to check all your latest blogs since I commented on them all and I'm a little behind. Glad to see you are up and going again. We need to get together. We never did our play dates! You'd think we live in a different state or something.
Anyway, you should visit my friend Kim's blog. "My chinese friend". I call her that cause we always speak in a chinese accent to each other. She loves fall too and she has a lot of beautiful fall pictures down the right side of her blog. And it is called Falling Leaves.
