I should have taken the stairs...

Have you ever wanted to press the little button in the elevator that said help? Well, I did just that the other day while making my rounds at work. I was on the 9th floor needing to go to the 8th. Usually I take the stairs as I could use the exercise and it is faster. But, today I ended up taking the elevator. I enter all alone and press my destination, when the elevator literally drops 6 inches and sits there. I begin pressing all buttons to perhaps get it started again, but I knew I was trapped in the metal box. Do not panic or feel stupid. I press the help button and the operator comes on asking if I need help. Yes, I am stuck in the elevator. Are there any patients with you? No, It's just me. Okay, I will send security. So a few minutes later people are trying to pry open the doors. Through the crack they talk to me.

I tell them I knew I should have taken the stairs, No, just bad timing. Then he informs me that there are more people stuck on another elevator so they need to help them first. Okay, so I wait... Thinking it would be nice if I had some company but, then again I didn't want anyone sucking up my air, and it started to feel a little clamy. I looked at the floor wishing to sit down but the filth and thought of "hospital germs" quickly made up my mind.

So I lean up against the wall examining all the handprints in my stainless steel surroundings. I inform my co-workers with my Vocera (like a walkie talkie) that I may be here awhile. But, the signals were weak and the conversation was cutting out. So 40 minutes later....

The security guard comes back and after messing around a bit the elevator moves back up and the doors open. I am FREE, now I have to go back to work. Apparently, this seems to be a common occurance. Go figure.

Awww...that is so sad you were all by yourself! It's just proof that you always should have a buddy. They should incorporate the buddy system at the hospital. It's also proof that everyone should always carry a card game around with them, in case of emergencies like this! And oxygen tanks. Always take your oxygen tank. And a backpack full of food. And water. Lots of water. And a portable toilet. and Toilet paper. And a change of clothes. Sheesh...we should be more like snails and just carry our houses around on our backs!

Apparently the elevator had trouble like that at my old job... There were only 3 floors in that building.. how lame is that?

I was lucky enough in my 3 years there that I never got stuck in the elevator.. there were pleanty of other people who did however... a good thing. I probably would have panicked. We didn't have security guards or even regular maintenance people there. I would have been in there for ages!

What the? Is that you passed out in the elevator? I thought you were going to say you sucked up all your own air. ha ha How did you get those pics? Funny. If I were stuck in there with you, we would have made up a whole Mad TV skit in less than 40 min.

Ang: When I was done posting. I was laughing thinking I should have made up a whole story, saying that was me in the picture from security and that the news was there and when I finally got out everyone was standing around applausing etc.
