The Thorn
So a week ago Caleb had stepped on something in the carpet and it hurt the heel of his foot. It kind of looked like something was in his foot but I wasn't sure if it was just the sore where he poked it. Of couse, trying to get a good look at his foot is like pure torture. Anyway, I thought I would see if it went away or came out on it's own after a few days. It didn't and every once in awhile he would say it hurt when he walked. I thought great he is pushing it further into his foot. I told him he would have to let me get it out or I would have to take him to the doctor. He won't let me near his foot and screams bloody murder if I try. When I took a look tonight I could see it - a tiny thorn - and I knew I could get it with tweezers. I think it was starting to work it's way out.
Sooo we were mean. I made Chris hold him down while I got it out. It took only a second and it didn't even hurt him. All the crying and screaming for nothing. I showed him the hole and the thorn and we put neosporin on it and a bandaid.
After the trama he just wanted me to hold him. Which lead into one of his lengthy conversations. He just wanted to talk. He is quite inquisitive and full of questions. He got a couple of Book of Mormon action figures for Christmas, so this time he was asking all about the Liahona and what it is for and how did he get it and where is it now and who are Lehi's kids and does Helaman have kids and on an on (I had to get input from Chris for a few). He said, you need to read the Book of Mormon. I guess it takes a kid to put you in your place.
Then at bedtime he started in again with what do spirits look like and where do they go, and what do they do there, etc. He asked how do we get there and what if we aren't good. I told him we need to do our best and repent if we aren't. He then asked what repent meant. I explained that, for example, if we lie but then tell the truth that it is like repenting. He then said "like last night when we took a bath and I told you that dad already washed our hair but he didn't". Yes, just like that. As the scenerio goes: I went to wash their hair and it was already wet so I asked if dad already washed their hair. Caleb said, yes he did. "Are you lying"? "No". I was a little suspicious. I told him "if I get you out and ask dad if he did, and he said no, that it was lying". He quickly said "no he didn't, you need to wash our hair. Sorry Mom").

Very inquisitive indeed. He's going to be a good missionary. We need to get together to play games. We got a lot of new ones. I miss you. Wish you could just drive over (5 min. away) and drop Caleb and Jacob off to play for a couple of hours! Hud and Parks have friends over right now...and I need peace and quiet for Logan to nap so we can party all night!
It reminds me of the lion and the mouse story about the thorn. LOL! I can imagine caleb "growling." LOL!
My kids are just like that!!! We almost had the exact same episode except it was her big toe. It is so fun to check in on your family.
